Major fire at HPCL refinery in Vishakhapatnam

State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh has faced a major fire in its cooling tower section. Two persons killed and 37 injured in the incidence.

As per the police, the fire broke out at 4 pm today in woods of cooling tower where welding work was going on by contractor workers. The fire has now been brought under control. A fire had reportedly broken out in the same plant earlier this year.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has two refineries, one at Visakhapatnam with a capacity of 166,000 barrel per day (bpd) and the other is at Mumbai with a capacity of 130,000 barrel per day (bpd). HPCL has also a stake in 180,000 barrel per day (bpd) Bathinda refinery partly owned by LN Mittal.
